I currently feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I am trying to get financial aid to pay for my co-payment for the surgery and I might need radiation. My challenge is to find something to make ends meet and have the time to deal with the recovery. I would really like some guidance.
Thanks and regards, Vickie

Dear Vickie, I'm not sure that any words I can say can express my empathy with your situation. Illness is hard enough to manage. But figuring out how to pay for it and take care of yourself makes this 'challenging' indeed. It seems to me that the first question you have to ask yourself is what kind of work can you do? I don't know about your skills or background but this is a time to think as creatively as possible. Next what are your physical limitations? I can't tell how the cancer is impacting your health now or what the radiation might do to that but you can and that's important. Sometimes we think that illness means we're more debilitated than we actually are. Or we can ignore how we feel and underperform. Clear self assessment is important. Do you know how much money you need to earn? That's important because it will help you decide what is worth your efforts. Finally, use others to help you get ideas. You might reach out to whomever you know and ask them for ideas. Your personal network, including friends, family, anyone you've worked with, neighbors, your doctors, are your best resources. They know you and will have ideas you might not think of. Some might be willing to 'go to bat' and speak to prospective employers.
I hope that this is helpful and that you can put some things together during this time.
Warmly,
Rosalind
