I worked the first 3 years receiving chemotherapy each of those years for 6 months each. The last 3 years I have received health insurance and a small disability check from my employer. I again had chemotherapy 6 months of these 3 years. It would be very difficult to work the 6 months I am on chemo. I lose my health insurance (or would have to pay $1,500/month for my spouse and I) if I don't return to former school district employer). The 6 months I could work, I probably could get health insurance, but what would I do for the time I am in chemo, and how would I pay for chemo or health insurance?

Hi Maria,
Thanks for reaching out and apologies for the delayed response, we've been experiencing some problems with our alerts. Our legal expert is currently out of the office but she will get back to you when she returns. In the meantime, I would recommend checking out our Guide to Insurance (http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/at-work/Legal-and-Financial/A-Guide-to-Insurance) if you haven't already.
I would also recommend reaching out to the National Cancer Legal Services Network: http://www.nclsn.org/
I hope that this is helpful.
Best,
Sarah, Cancer and Careers Program Coordinator
