Hi. I'm so glad to have found your site. I was diagnosed with cancer in my neck in may of 2012 and started chemo in July. Then finished up with radiation on Halloween. I'm a fabricator building stuff for race cars as well as going to the track. A busy and labor intensive job but I loved it. So now I'm cancer free since January 2013. Yea. Anyway I'm doing alot better but still don't have the stamina to return full time and part time isent an option. Yesterday I saw my doctor and asked to extend my disability until the end of September but he wouldn't so my benefits will end July 31. I'm here to ask about resources for retraining and state or federal benefits while I retrain. At help would be greatly appricated.
Thanks. Mike R

Hi Mike,
I would like to give you a thoughtful answer to your question and first would like to ask you what state you live in? Once I know this I will do some research and get back to you.
Thanks so much!

Hi Mike,
Here is a link for a PDF fact sheet that describes the California Training Benefits program: www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de8714u.pdf
Also, I assume you will be applying for unemployment benefits and have perused the State of California Employment Development Department's website?

Mike.
Unfortunately federal retraining benefits are not plentiful. So I would check out those two resources. Additionally, some local community colleges do offer free classes to unemployed people so I would contact the ones in your area directly.
Good luck!
Julie
