Hi! I've got a question about returning to work after being on disability for 10 months during cancer treatment and surgical recovery. My question is: my employer offered private disability for employees to pay for as a benefit, which I did sign up for a long time ago, so I've had partial salary throughout treatment - great! They have also held my job, though legally not required. That said, it was an unhappy job and the thought of going back to 40+ hours a week of unhappiness after beating cancer seems unbearable to me. I've found another opportunity that I'd love to take which would be much more fulfilling but I am unsure how to send a resignation which explains that I'm grateful they held the job for me but I will not be returning. I am trying to avoid personal questions but also understand they may be upset. I'm sure this is the right move for me but I don't know the right way to resign with as much grace as possible.
