I'm too young (62) and have too much energy to stay retired, but may have cancer at anytime. Sometime it will kill me (I have been referred to Palliative Care), but in the meantime twiddling my thumbs and watching TV doesn't make it. I look healthy/ normal now and have traveled overseas twice in the last year. Right now I am building up my core with water exercises, but have hiked most of the post chemo 3 years 8K steps/day or more.
I would like to have a job that means something to me, but am afraid to start looking. Was trained as a Medical Lab Tech and retired to save my 30+ year marriage. One day after my diagnosis of ovarian cancer, he died. I am on a PARP-inhibitor and blood tested monthly to see that I am clear of cancer.
So I am looking for a part-time job as a Phlebotomist or Lab Tech. Need help knowing that it is possible.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for writing to us. We totally agree you shouldn’t waste your time and talents sitting around if you want to work, and you feel up to it! In fact, many people feel exactly the same way that you do so you are most definitely not alone. It sounds like you have quite a breadth of experience as a Lab Tech, so finding part-time work in that position (or something similar) seems like a good place to start. But don’t assume there aren’t other things you could do as well.
I’ve reached out to one of our career coaches to get further insight into your situation, but in the meantime, the following resources might be helpful:
A coach will be in touch soon!
All the best,
