Career Change
I am a teacher and currently finishing my chemo. I am looking at a less stressful career. Teaching is very intense physically, emotionally and mentally. I've wanted to be a teacher since I was in year 8 at school and I have been a teacher for the last 15 years. But since having cancer I wonder if it is the right career for me at this stage in my life. What are my options?

Dear Ria, Thanks for writing to us. I'm sorry to hear teaching has become difficult, but it's great you're starting to think about what may be a more suitable career path, and are weighing your different options. Do you want to stay in the education field, in a more administrative role, or do you wish to seek employment in a new field? I've sent your post over to our coaches who will get back to you soon. In the meantime, I would suggest checking out the following resources to help guide you with next steps: Webinar recording on career change: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/community/videos/bwc/career-change Article on cancer as an inspiration for career change: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/looking-for-work/exploring-your-options/cancer-as-inspiration-for-career-changes Article on finding meaningful work: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/looking-for-work/exploring-your-options/finding-meaningful-work Article on job-hunting after cancer treatment: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/looking-for-work/exploring-your-options/job-hunting-after-cancer-treatment Free resume review service: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/resume_reviews/new Best regards, Maddy Meislin Associate Manager of Programs

I'd love to still work with children helping them succeed. Not sure whether I want to stay in the education system or be an administrator. But I am hoping to transfer my skills to a new role. Thank you for the links I will
Certainly look at those.
