I am recent graduate ( May 2013) and just started in the work force in a bank position that was merely a paycheck as I was exploring options. After working for the company for only 9 months I was diagnosed with Lymphoma and went on short term disability while in treatment. Fast forward 6 months and I am no longer in treatment and medically cleared to work however, as you can imagine my position is no longer available.

Hi Alix,
Thanks for writing to us and congratulations on being cleared to
return to work! In order to help you figure out your next steps, could you
provide us with a little more information? I have listed some questions below
that will help us provide you more tailored advice. I have also listed some
general resources below that I think could be helpful as you start job
searching.
What did you study in school? Is this related to what you want
to do? Are you interested in returning to the bank or doing something different
entirely? If so, do you have any ideas about what you’re interested in doing?
My first recommendation is to join our Job Search Webinar coming up on
Tuesday, December 9th at 6:30 PM. Our career coach Julie Jansen will
share job search tips, tricks and tools and take questions, so I think this
could be really helpful for you. More info and registration is here: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/community/events/job-search-calls
Here are some additional
resources to help you with a job search:
ordered or downloaded for free here): http://www.cancerandcareers.org/publication_orders/new
As I said above, this information is broader to help you start
thinking about your approach to the job search and what you want to focus on
with your search. For even more information check out our Looking for Work
section on the website: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/looking-for-work
If you can send us more information regarding the questions
above we will get back to you with more feedback.
Hope this is helpful!
Best,
Sarah, Associate Manager of Programs, Cancer and
Careers
