Job Search
I am undergoing chemotherapy and my only form of income is disability. I would like to work to make additional money but it is difficult to have even a part time job if it cannot be flexible while I am down from treatment. Something such as transcript that can be pulled from a que when I am able to work. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Sheila,
Thank you so much for reaching out to Cancer and Careers.
It might feel challenging to find a position with the flexibility you’re looking for, but there are jobs out there that can provide a schedule more conducive to your treatment schedule and side effects. I’d encourage you to think about what you feel you’d be up for in terms of specific job-related tasks. You mention transcriptions, that’s certainly something that could be done based on your own schedule if there are certain deadlines associated. Just keeping in mind how and when you would be able to set aside the time to complete. It sounds like a position with project-based responsibilities, where deadlines are set in advance, might be a good idea, so you can more specifically plan your time and provide yourself cushion where needed.
A few resources you might find useful as your create a plan to look for these types of positions:
If you’d like to speak further about your situation, or get more ideas and/or resources, feel free to reach out to cancerandcareers@cew.org to set up a time to talk.
