Career Change
I currently work in a digital marketing agency and after my cancer diagnosis (July 2015) of Ovarian Stage 3, and now my chemo is done (Feb 2016), I am feeling lost in overall direction. I really do not feel like I want to continue to do what I do and work so hard for something that I do not feel is making any difference in this world. I am struggling to figure out what it is that I may like to do...

Hi Vicki,
Thanks for writing to us! Congratulations on being done with chemo, and I absolutely understand wanting to find more meaningful work. I have sent your question over to our coaches who will be in touch soon. Do you have any idea what sort of direction you would like to go, or are there any certain things you are particularly passionate about or interested in? Any additional information you can provide will help us get you more helpful answers.
In the meantime, if you haven't already, I recommend that you check out the following articles:

Career Coach Comment:
Hi Vicki,
Congratulations on finishing your chemo!
In order to determine what you want to pursue next, it's important to go through a self-assessment process to figure it out. This means understanding what your values, personality type (if you haven't already, find out your MBTI at personalitytype.com) possible interests you could turn into work, and the skills you want to use are. Once you are more clear about these, you can do some research on different types of jobs that interest you and then find people with whom you can network with to schedule some informational meetings. The third edition of my book was published earlier this year called I Don't Know What I Want, But I Know It's Not This and it may help you work through this process.
I am sorry to be so general however you haven't shared any specific information about yourself and what might interest you. If you want to write back and give me more information I can give you some ideas.
Take care,
Julie

Thank you both. The articles, the website and book may be very helpful to me. I love to take pictures, but am not sure I want to go that direction for a career as I know it will require nights and weekends, but do have my own, very part time business. I love to organize and see things come together in the end. I am a project manager at work, but the work I am doing, is just not filling me up. I want to do something that makes people feel good or helps them in some way. In my current role I am just helping retailers to make more money.
