The ballroom of the New York Hilton Midtown came alive on Friday, December 13th, in the spirit of the season. The annual Beauty of Giving Awards Luncheon supports Cancer and Careers in every way — from ensuring our services remain free for all, to expanding our reach so that more and more people can benefit. The memorable afternoon began with a welcome from the Chairwoman of the CEW Foundation Board, Heidi Manheimer, who set the tone. “We know you’re busy at work. This event is about helping survivors feel the same — busy, productive and on track.”
The Luncheon honored Qurate Retail Group, the parent company of QVC and HSN — and Cancer and Careers’ biggest benefactor. It was Qurate who launched the landmark broadcast fundraiser Beauty with Benefits in 2013, combining their vast media power with the generosity of the beauty industry. The annual results have transformed Cancer and Careers. In total, Qurate Retail Group — its team members and partners — have generated more than $10M to support our work and further our plans. Qurate Retail Group’s President and CEO, Mike George, graciously accepted the award on the company’s behalf.
Every year Cancer and Careers profiles a survivor who embodies the organization’s mission. This year’s spokesperson, QVC employee B.J., spoke candidly about how work helped save her life — and how her very first call after hearing she had cancer was to her boss. “In 15 years of working together, he has never let me down.” We invite you to watch her story, which includes being “Marine tough” and 100% dedicated to her job.
There was a flurry of giving during the Fund-A-Need section of the program and some truly exciting bidding during the Live Auction at the event’s conclusion.
We are grateful for the success of Beauty of Giving, powered by the generosity of so many attendees, supporters and, of course, sponsors — including Condé Nast, Pfizer Oncology, P&G Beauty, Robertet, Josie Maran, Korres, Orlandi, philosophy, tarte, Tweezerman and New World Natural Brands. We would also like to recognize the in-kind contributions of Beauty Inc., Consultancy Media, Kaplow, Suite K and WWD.
Thank you to all. In the words of our Executive Director, Rebecca Nellis, “You fuel our vision, and our destiny.“
