On Friday, December 9th more than 650 guests joined us at the Waldorf Astoria New York in support of Cancer and Careers. In the words of CEW Foundation Board Chairwoman Heidi Manheimer, it was a “powerful” audience — not because of their titles or workplace success, but because of their generosity. “Generosity connects us, strengthens us and makes things happen.” For the beauty industry, Cancer and Careers is the perfect example.
In addition to fueling our free programs and services, the luncheon honors a company’s or an individual’s commitment to philanthropy. This year, we recognized Laura Geller for her decade of dedication and inspirational support to Cancer and Careers. The room was filled with emotion as Laura accepted her award: “The feeling of hope [for cancer survivors] is universal — let’s work together to make sure help is universal as well!”
In addition, we premiered this year’s Beauty of Giving video at the event, which profiled Broadway star and ovarian cancer survivor Marin Mazzie, who believes that work is a gift. You can watch her inspiring story here: www.cancerandcareers.org/en/community/videos/marins-story-work-is-a-gift
The event concluded with a live auction of once-in-a-lifetime vacation packages, and a Fund-A-Need campaign that sparked an outpouring of giving.
The luncheon wouldn’t have been possible without our incredibly generous sponsors, including Condé Nast, Robertet, Pfizer Oncology, QVC, Gotha Cosmetics, Yonwoo/PKG, Mary Kay, Orlandi, P&G Beauty, Tweezerman, BeautyKind, Beauty Inc., Consultancy Media, Kaplow, Suite K and WWD.
Thank you to everyone who attended. Cancer and Careers felt the love for the work that we do and for the people we serve. What a powerful afternoon!
