It’s a wrap! Dr. Nieves Cuervo joined us this past Tuesday, October 11th for the final session of Pregúntale a los Expertos, an interactive series that provided space for Spanish-speaking patients and survivors to hear from nutrition, health and legal experts. The series ran during Hispanic Heritage Month, and it was conducted fully in Spanish.
On this final session, Dr. Cuervo talked about balancing mental health, work demands and a cancer diagnosis. A recurring (and important!) topic of discussion throughout the conversation was stress. Dr. Cuevo stated that there are three types of stress: biological, psychological, and social.
When asked about stress management approaches, Dr Cuervo mentioned the following strategies:
- Biological stress: Medical treatments, diet, physical activities, rest and sleep
- Psychological & social stress: Support from friends and family, professional help, support groups, pets, reasonable accommodations at work, and more!
What works for you? I encourage you to think about techniques that help you prevent or relieve stress. To learn more about managing stress, click here and watch this webinar.
We are grateful for all the attendees and the experts who joined us for this series. If you missed Pregúntale a los Expertos this year, mark your calendars for 2023! We look forward to continue serving the Hispanic cancer community through our programs and services.
