October is indeed a very busy month. Not only is it Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it is also National Disability Employment Awareness Month. It is a reminder of the vast accomplishments of those with disabilities in the workplace and highlights equal employment opportunities for all.
A new survey by the Kessler Foundation and the National Organization on Disability examined corporations and disability hiring in order to gain insight into current attitudes around this population. You can review this survery at www.2010DisabilitySurveys.org. The findings were less than stellar and indicate that most employers are not aware of what those with disabilities can bring to the table. The key to turning this around is of course education. With our materials, you can educate employees with cancer, as well as others in their work life about disability. This will only broaden the collective power of our work culture.
Our mission is to empower and educate people with cancer to thrive in their work environment by providing expert advice, interactive tools and educational events. We understand the power of education!
