With the new year approaching, now is a great time to revamp your job search. You want to be the savviest candidate you can be when looking for a new job—so you will want to make sure you’re well equipped to update job-search documents such as your resume and cover letter, and reset the way you think about interviewing, networking, building an online brand and more. CAC is committed to providing expert programs and interactive services to help people diagnosed with cancer navigate a successful job search.
Here's how you can approach your job search with a fresh start:
Resume
Make sure your resume is up-to-date. Read through these resume
writing tips, update your resume, then submit your resume to our Resume Review
service. This service provides professional feedback on how to improve your
resume to help you stand out to hiring managers.
Cover Letter
We
always recommend applying to a job with a tailored cover letter specific to
that company and position. Read through suggestions on how
to master your cover letter.
Skills
Learning
a new skill can help you stand out or make transitioning careers easier. Think
about a new skill you might want to learn and see if a course may be offered on
one of these sites mentioned. View our archived

Your Skills: Prepping For Success.
Interviewing
It’s
important to prepare
for interviews in the same way we usually would (i.e. preparing answers to common
questions, preparing questions, using examples, etc.); but it’s also important
to adapt to the nuances of virtual interviewing. Read more about interviewing
tips and sign up for upcoming Job
Search webinar.
Networking
Reflect
on how many people you came in contact with, even virtually, this year – or
last year – and see if you could tell three of them that you are job searching.
You’ll want to get comfortable networking online and utilizing LinkedIn and the
online space to build relationships. Read through our Networking
section and register to join us in May for our webinar on Building
an Effective LinkedIn Profile.
Online Brand
Google yourself to
see what results show up about you. Perhaps make it a goal in 2021 to refresh
your digital footprint.
We also recommend utilizing our other job search resources this holiday or over the course of 2021. You can order or download a copy of our Job Search Toolkit, available in English and Spanish. You may also be interested in submitting a question and receiving personalized, tailored response from our panel of professional career coaches via Ask a Career Coach message board.
