For nearly two decades, CAC has been proudly serving the Spanish-speaking cancer community through its programs and resources. This week we launched Pregúntale a los Expertos, a new, virtual series in Spanish, and we couldn’t be more excited!
This open, interactive, online forum provides direct access to Latinx experts in fields such as nutrition, legal rights and mental health, to answer your most pressing questions about managing work and cancer. The virtual events are free and open to anyone touched by cancer.
Dr. Victoria Blinder, a board-certified medical oncologist who works at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, joined us for our first session on September 20th. During the hour-long conversation, Dr. Blinder responded to attendees’ questions, including topics such as working with a cancer diagnosis and disclosure, and provided valuable insight on things to keep in mind when communicating with a doctor. Dr. Blinder recognizes that oftentimes understanding “who is in charge of what” can be complex for patients. She explains that each medical discipline has a very specific role and encourages patients to ask doctors directly what their specialty is (and what that means), and what part of the treatment they are responsible for. She also states that it’s super important to not only take notes during the medical visit, but also write down questions before the consultation, so they don’t forget. This first session was a great success, and we’re grateful for everyone who joined us.
During this Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, we’ll be hosting a weekly Pregúntale a los Expertos session every Tuesday. We’re looking forward to the next session on Tuesday September 27th with Altagracia Gomez, focused on nutrition. We hope you can join us!
