Hello, there! My name is Nicole Shaffer and I’m thrilled to be the new Manager of Programs at Cancer and Careers. I am joining the team after spending the past several years as a staff social worker for a legal non-profit, advocating for parents involved in New York City’s child welfare system.
The work Cancer and Careers is doing holds a special place in my heart. My first job after graduating from college was in a cancer-focused organization, and I could not be more excited to come back to the cancer community in such a meaningful way.
One of the programs I will be actively involved in at Cancer and Careers is our Balancing Work & Cancer Webinar Series, which addresses many of the key concerns I have heard from people facing a diagnosis and questions about their life and their work. In fact, this year’s final session, on Job-Search, will be held on December 9, 2015, and will begin at 1:00 PM ET/10:00 AM PT. As with all of our programs and resources, sessions are free to attend, and you can learn more by clicking here. You’ll also find me on the other end of the phone more often than not if you call for information or referrals.
In my personal time I am an avid traveler with a major travel bug. After a two-week camping trip in South Africa in 2014, I find there is little I shy away from. Whether there is an opportunity to stroll the streets of a city or camp out under that stars, I am always game for an adventure! In fact, I am off to eat my way through Italy next week!
