My name is Chioma Onyekwere and I am excited to be the new Program Coordinator at Cancer and Careers! I recently graduated with my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration. While pursuing my master’s, I interned at the Alzheimer’s Association and Rush University Medical Center, with an interest in learning more about the unmet healthcare needs of vulnerable and underserved populations and the social work role in patient-centered care. I’m excited to put what I’ve learned from my internship experiences to use in my work at Cancer and Careers.
As Program Coordinator, I will be supporting and contributing to the programs and initiatives Cancer and Careers delivers to the cancer community. One of our most popular programs is our Balancing Work & Cancer webinar series, which provides useful information on how to navigate the challenges of managing cancer and employment. I’m looking forward to our next session, on Working Through Treatment, which is being offered on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 1:00 PM ET/10:00 AM PT. On my days off, I love exploring my neighborhood and getting better acquainted with the people and the community. As a new resident of New York City I am thrilled to experience the sights, sounds and, most importantly, the tastes (I am a foodie!) that the city offers.
