Looking for a job during the holiday season may feel daunting. It might feel like everyone is on vacation - and you might also want to take the time to be with friends and family. However, many companies are still looking to fill positions before the end of the year.
Here's some advice on looking for work during the holidays from Idealist and a few of our own:
Take advantage of the holidays to reconnect
The holiday season is full of parties and greetings. While at holiday parties, ask friends and family about job opportunities, reconnect with former colleagues and make new connections. Also, reconnect with LinkedIn connections and send them holiday greetings.
Volunteer
Organizations are always looking for extra help, especially during the holidays. Find a seasonal volunteering gig that will allow you to refine your skills or learn new ones as well as provide the opportunity to make new connections. Plus, you'll get to give back during the season of giving!
Check in, again, on your online image
At Cancer and Careers we're always emphasize the importance of managing your online brand, especially if you want to keep your cancer diagnosis private. If you haven't in a while, Google yourself again to see if any new search results appear that you wouldn't want a potential employer to see. Also, check in on your social media accounts to see if their privacy settings have changed recently.
