We just came back from two events and had a great time at both, full of huge turnouts and support from our amazing partners. Preparation for the Beauty of Caring on Oct. 3rd at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco was a huge success, thanks to our partners for the event, Self magazine and Shiseido cosmetics, who did a spectacular job as usual, ensuring that each aspect of the event came together seamlessly despite a record breaking number of attendees. There were 65 participants at the event, the most that we've ever had at a Beauty of Caring!
Our community partners - Cancer Support Community Bay Area, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Young Survival Coalition - also did an outstanding job helping us spread the word, and no doubt helped contribute to the energetic and fun vibe throughout the night. It's always nice to end an evening with comments such as, "This is better than Christmas and my birthday at the same time!"
The morning after the whirlwind BOC evening, the team boarded a train to Fresno for the Cancer Legal Resource Center's Cancer Rights Conference Central Valley on Friday. The ride through California's "salad bowl" was scenic, interspersed with lakes, mountains and just about every crop you can imagine - from pumpkins to tomatoes. After a hearty breakfast at the local Ihop on Friday morning we headed to the conference, where the CLRC had a great turnout of 160 participants. Following lunch was the session on work and cancer, where our very own Rebecca Nellis, VP of Programs and Strategy, gave a great presentation on the practical issues that working people with cancer face. Then it was more planes, trains and automobiles to get back to San Francisco and eventually home to NYC. We appreciated the fantastic turnout at the California events and hope to be back again soon!
