On Friday, December 15th, more than 600 guests joined us at the New York Hilton Midtown in support of Cancer and Careers. The event proved to be a success in every aspect and, as always, we were struck by the generosity of everyone who was there — from the guests seated on the dais to the hardworking Hilton waitstaff. It was evident that all were moved by CAC’s mission.
In addition to helping fuel our free programs and services, the luncheon honored three companies’ commitments to philanthropy. This year, we recognized Lily Garfield and Cos Bar, along with Juergen Bosse and Tweezerman, for their years of dedication to and inspirational support of Cancer and Careers. We were also proud to present the Estée Lauder Companies with the Legacy Award, in recognition of the incredible success of the Estée Lauder Breast Cancer Campaign, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017.
As in the past, this year’s Beauty of Giving Luncheon was also where we premiered our most recent survivor video, which profiled Carla, a beneficiary of Cancer and Careers’ programs, including a travel scholarship to our annual National Conference on Work & Cancer. Carla, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, believes that work is a critical part of her recovery. As she explains, “In order to feel the most like myself, I needed to go back to work. Because when you have cancer, you want to keep on living.”
Following the video, Carla had the opportunity to address the packed audience in the Hilton ballroom, eloquently sharing thoughts on her cancer experience and the valuable information and tools she has accessed through CAC’s services. She received a standing ovation.
You can watch Carla’s inspiring story here.
The event concluded with a live auction of once-in-a-lifetime vacation packages, and a Fund-A-Need campaign that sparked an outpouring of giving.
The luncheon wouldn’t have been possible without our incredibly generous sponsors, including Condé Nast, Robertet, Pfizer Oncology, Laura Geller New York, Ruckus Marketing, Orlandi, Mary Kay, P&G Beauty, QVC, Zwilling Beauty Group, Consultancy Media, Kaplow, Suite K, Beauty Inc. and WWD.
Thank you to everyone who attended. We felt the tremendous support for the work that we do and the lives we impact. What an amazing afternoon for Cancer and Careers!
